The Quran made a huge scientific blunder about the meteors (shooting stars). According to the Quran:
- There are 7 heavens altogether.
- And the lowest heaven (among these 7 heavens) is known as the "heaven of our world" (Arabic: السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا), while this lowest heaven is closest to earth.
- The stars are actually 'lamps' (which are burning and emitting light) in the sky.
- Allah put all these stars under the first heaven (i.e. the lowest heaven of the earth) in order to beautify the first heaven.
- And these stars (i.e. burning lamps) change into 'shooting stars' (i.e. flame of fire), when angels threw them as missiles, in order to attack the devils, who come to the first heaven of the world, and try to listen to the commandments of Allah from the assembly of angels in the 1st heaven.
While modern science denies this Quranic story.
According to modern science:
- Asteroids are big rocks, which are moving around the sun (just like our earth). They are mostly present between Mars and Jupiter. Some of them are closer to earth.
- When these asteroids collide with each other, they break up into pebble size stones, which are known as meteoroids.
- When these meteoroids enter into the atmosphere of our world from space (due to gravity), then they start burning, and emitting light, while traveling at high speed. At this point, these meteoroids are known as meteors (and before the arrival of modern science, they were known as shooting stars). Link.
Let us see the proof of this Quranic blunder.

Quranic claim: Stars are lamps that transform into 'burning flames' (i.e. shooting stars) when hit to the devils
Please see the following 2 verses:
Quran 67:5:
And certainly We have beautified the Heaven of Earth (i.e. the lowest heaven from among the 7 heaves, and which is closest to the Earth. Arabic: السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا) with lamps (i.e. stars) and We have made them (as) missiles for the devils.
Quran 37:6-10:
Indeed, We have adorned (lowest of 7 heavens, i.e.) the heaven of Earth (Arabic: السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا) with an adornment of stars. And (to) guard against every devil rebellious, [So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side. Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment. Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued/chased by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].
Therefore, according to these 2 verses, Allah claims that:
- Stars (who are emitting light and visible to us and beautifying the first heaven of the world) are actually lamps of fire.
- And all these stars are under the 1st heaven (which is the lowest heaven and known as the 'heaven of the earth'). Allah put these stars under the 1st heaven, in order to beautify it.
- And these stars (i.e. burning lamps) transform into 'shooting stars' (i.e. flame of fire), when they are thrown as missiles, in order to attack and pursue the devils, who come to the first heaven of the world and try to listen to the commandments of Allah from the assembly of angels in the 1st heaven.
The following Hadith also proves that these burning flames are the same as shooting stars, which are thrown upon devils:
As we were sitting during the night with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), a meteor (shooting star) gave a dazzling light. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: What did you say in the pre-Islamic days when there was such a shooting star? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best (the actual position), but we, however, used to say that that very night a great man had been born and a great man had died, whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: These shooting stars neither appear at the death of anyone nor on the birth of anyone. Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, issues Command when He decides to do a thing. Then (the Angels) supporting the Throne sing His glory, then sing the dwellers of heaven who are near to them until this glory of God reaches them who are in the heaven of this world (i.e. the first and the lowest heaven, السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا). Then those who are near the supporters of the Throne ask these supporters of the Throne: What your Lord has said? And they accordingly inform them what He says. Then the dwellers of heaven seek information from them until this information reaches the (lowest) heaven of the world. In this process of transmission (the jinn snatches) what he manages to overhear and he carries it to his friends. And when the Angels see the jinn (devil) they attack them with the meteors (shooting stars). If they narrate only which they manage to snatch that is correct but they alloy it with lies and make additions to it.
Thus, the companions saw those shooting stars, and Muhammad confirmed to them that these shooting stars were the burning flames, which were used to attack and pursue the devils.
Moreover, the following Hadith also proves that these same stars are used for hitting the devils.
Sahih Bukhari (link 1 and link 2):
Qatada said God most high created these stars for three purposes; He made them an adornment for the sky, missiles for the devils, and signs by which people find their way.
1st Blunder: Meteoroids are neither stars, nor lamps, nor do they emit light, nor do they beautify 1st heaven
Contrary to the Quranic claim:
- Stars (which the Quran claims to be lamps and which are visible to the naked eye, and used for beautifying the first heaven of our world) never turn into shooting stars.
- But these are pebble size meteoroids, which turn into shooting stars (i.e. burning flames) when they enter the atmosphere of the earth.
- And these meteoroids are neither burning like lamps, nor emitting any light (before entering our atmosphere), nor they are working as any adornment for the sky, but they are totally dark and invisible to the naked eye.
- And these meteoroids cannot guide people to find their way.
2nd Blunder: Meteoroids never pursue/chase anything (i.e. devils), but they follow only gravity
According to Quran and Ahadith, a burning flame is thrown at the devil, and then it pursues/chases the devil like a missile.
Quran 15:16-18:
And We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers. And We have protected it from every devil accursed. Except one who steals a hearing and is chased away by a clear burning flame.
Quran 37:6-10:
Indeed, We have adorned (lowest of 7 heavens, i.e.) the heaven of Earth (Arabic: السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا) with an adornment of stars. And (to) guard against every devil rebellious, [So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side. Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment. If these Quranic verses are really telling the truth, then:
- Firstly, an angel has to especially aim at the devils while throwing the burning flame.
- Secondly, pursuing/chasing an escaping devil like a missile also means that the burning flame should also have the ability to change its path.
But Quran is totally wrong here while shooting stars never change their path. They only follow the gravity of the earth, and the rules of physics and travel in a straight line.
Science can already foretell in advance, WHEN (on what date and at what time) the Devils will steal the so-called COMMAND of Allah from 1st heaven
Please read the following news (link):
Up to 50 shooting stars an hour are expected to light up the night sky during the Eta Aquarid meteor shower. The dazzling display takes place between April 19 and May 28 but will peak this year on Friday (May 6) ... Experts at Royal Observatory Greenwich say the best time to catch a glimpse of the celestial display – which will be visible all over the world – will be between midnight and dawn on Friday ...
Thus, scientists are now able to foretell in advance:

WHEN (on what date and at what time) will the devils steal the so-called COMMAND of Allah from 1st heaven.
-
They are even able to foretell the "rate of stealing" i.e. HOW MANY devils will steal the commands of Allah per hour (i.e. up to 50 shooting stars an hour during the Eta Aquarid meteor shower).
This means, modern Scientists also know about the FUTURE along with Allah.
We just hope that Muslims can realize how ridiculous the Quranic story about devils and shooting stars has become in the light of modern science.
3rd Blunder: 1st Heaven of Earth is only 62 miles away from Earth
The Quran claims when devils try to hear the commands of Allah from the assembly of angels, which happens on the 1st heaven of earth, then they are hit with burning flames/meteors.
But modern science has proved that meteoroids start burning only when they enter the atmosphere of our earth from space. And space is only 62 miles away from our earth.
Therefore, it means that the 1st Heaven is only 62 miles away from our earth according to the Quran.
Quran 72:8-9:
[The Jinns said] We sought to touch the heaven but we found it filled (with) guards severe, and burning flames. And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.
Please think about it, if all the scientists are blind that they neither see any solid heaven (as Quran and Ahadith claim) 62 miles away, nor do they see the assembly of any angels, nor do they see any Adam laughing and weeping, nor do they see the descendants of Adam there. Please see the following hadith.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ... Gabriel ascended with me to the heaven, and when we came to the lowest heaven (i.e. the heaven of the earth), Gabriel said to the guardian of the lowest heaven: Open. He asked who was there? He replied. It is Gabriel. He again asked who is there with you. He replied: Yes, it is Muhammad with me. He was asked if he had been sent for, He (Gabriel) said: Yes. Then he opened (the gate). When we ascended the lowest heaven (I saw) a man seated with parties on his right side and parties on his left side. When he looked up to his right, he laughed and when he looked to his left, he wept. He said: Welcome to the righteous apostle and the righteous son. I asked Gabriel who he was and he replied: He is Adam (peace be upon him) and these parties on his right and on his left are the souls of his descendants. Those of them on his right are the inmates of Paradise and the parties which are on his left side are the inmates of Hell; so when he looked towards his right side, he laughed, and when he looked towards his left side, he wept.
If these scientists are not blind, then it proves that the writer of the Quran was only telling lies to the people of that time of ignorance. He thought no one could go up in the sky to confirm or reject his story about shooting stars, so he was free to narrate fairytales to the people in order to impress them so that they follow him.
4th Blunder: Contradiction in Quran regarding how far away is the 1st heaven
On one hand, the writer of the Quran claimed that incidents of shooting stars happen in the 1st heaven, which makes the 1st heaven to be 62 miles away from earth.
But on the other hand, the writer of the Quran also claimed that ALL the stars are present under the 1st heaven, and Allah made them in order to beautify this lowest heaven.
Quran 37:6:
Indeed, We (Allah) have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars
But modern science caught this contradiction of the Quran and proved that these stars are present billions of light years away from our earth.
We invite Muslims to please ponder upon this Quranic contradiction.
5th Blunder: Devils make a ladder by standing on the shoulders of each other, in order to reach the 1st heaven
And this so-called Sahih Hadith is perhaps the most ridiculous one, where Muhammad is claiming that devils reach the 1st heaven by standing upon the shoulders of each other, and when the uppermost devil steals the command of Allah, then he tells it to the devil below him, who then tells it to the devil below him .... till it reaches the lowest devil who is standing on the earth.
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Prophet said, "When Allah decrees some order in the heaven, the angels flutter their wings indicating complete surrender to His saying which sounds like chains being dragged on rock. And when the state of fear disappears, they ask each other, "What has your Lord ordered? They say that He has said that which is true and just, and He is the Most High, the Most Great." (34.23). Then the stealthy listeners (devils) hear this order, and these stealthy listeners are like this, one over the other [i.e. standing upon the shoulders of each other and making a ladder]." Sufyan, a sub-narrator demonstrated that by holding his hand upright and separating the fingers. A stealthy listener hears a word which he will convey to that which is below him and the second will convey it to that which is below him till the last of them will convey it to the wizard or foreteller. Sometimes a flame (fire) may strike the devil before he can convey it, and sometimes he may convey it before the flame (fire) strikes him, whereupon the wizard adds to that word a hundred lies. The people will then say, 'Didn't he (i.e. magician) tell such-and-such a thing on such-and-such date?' So that magician is said to have told the truth because of the Statement which has been heard from the heavens."
According to the Quran, the 1st heaven is billions of light years away from earth (as all stars are present under the 1st heaven in order to beautify it).
And according to Muhammad, devils reach to this 1st heaven (which is billions of light years away) by simply standing upon the shoulders of each other.
Is it possible for any sane person in this modern era of science to ever believe in this ridiculous fairytale of Muhammad anymore?
And this Hadith becomes even more ridiculous when it claims that even these missiles (which are hit by the orders f divine Allah) also sometimes miss their targets, and thus the devil successfully passes the commands of Allah to the devil below him.
Islam apologists come up here with an excuse that the Quran and Hadith are not the books of science. But then question is, if they are not books of science when are then Allah and Muhammad still telling the completely false scientific facts in them?
6th Blunder: Only after the prophethood of Muhammad, devils are hit by shooting stars
It is also interesting, rather important to understand why the writer of the Quran (who is Muhammad himself according to us), fabricated this story of shooting stars and devils.
Although Muhammad claimed prophethood, and also claimed of getting the news of the future and unseen from Allah, still people used to go to the soothsayers and asked them about the news of the future and unseen. In fact, Muhammad himself narrated the story of Moses in the Quran, where the soothsayers foretold Pharaoh about the birth of Moses, who would destroy his throne. Therefore, people still went to the soothsayers and offered them money and other things as sacrifices, so that they could tell them about the future.
Muhammad didn't like that soothsayers become his rivals and people offer them money in name of getting news about the future and unseen. He wanted a complete monopoly upon this domain of future news and unseen. But this was not possible till the time it is not denied that soothsayers had any news of the future.
Thus, Muhammad invented a new story, where he claimed that soothsayers were earlier able to tell about the future, while devils brought them the news of the future from the 1st heaven. Nevertheless, this system had been seized to exist after his prophethood, and the soothsayers could not tell anymore about the future, while Allah had started to hit the devils with shooting stars for hearing his commandments in the 1st heaven. Then Muhammad claimed the revelation of the following verse as proof:
Quran 72:8-9:
[The Jinns said] We sought to touch the heaven but we found it filled (with) guards severe, and burning flames. And we used to sit therein (in the past) in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now (i.e. after the prophethood of Muhammad) will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.
Thus, Muhammad successfully negated the importance of soothsayers and their ability to tell about the future anymore through this story.
Nevertheless, the problem is in order to hide a lie, a thousand more lies are needed.
The same thing happened with this story of Muhammad, and the new question arose that process of shooting stars didn't start with the prophethood of Muhammad, but it was happening even before him. So, if shooting stars were not used for hitting the devils before Muhammad, what was then the purpose of turning the stars into burning flames (i.e. shooting stars) before him?
The writer of the Quran, or Muhammad never answered this question in his life why stars were turning into burning flames before his prophethood. Perhaps, he was unable to answer it.
Later coming Muslim generations were also not able to present any proof for this. Ibn Kathir tried to present the following argument (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, under verse 72:8):
It used to be that shooting stars (meteors) occurred before this (i.e. the prophethood of Muhammad), however it did not happen much, rather only occasionally.
Every sane person can see that the argument of Ibn Kathir is nothing more than a lame excuse and a lie. There is no proof that incidents of meteors occurred only occasionally before Muhammad, and their rate increased after his prophethood. Meteors were falling in all over the world, and none of the people of that era in the rest of the world noted any increase in the rate of meteors after the prophethood of Muhammad.
Moreover, this story was not limited only to negating the importance of soothsayers, but Muhammad also used it to make himself even more important by adding in it that some Jinns also came to him, and they also accepted Islam on his hands.
Ibn 'Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) neither recited the Qur'an to the Jinn nor did he see them. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out with some of his Companions with the intention of going to the bazaar of 'Ukaz And there had been (at that time) obstructions between satans and the news from the Heaven, and there were flung flames upon them. So satan went back to their people and they said: What has happened to you? They said: There have been created obstructions between us and the news from the Heaven. And there have been flung upon us flames. They said: It cannot happen but for some (important) event. So traverse the eastern parts of the earth and the western parts and find out why is it that there have been created obstructions between us and the news from the Heaven. So they went forth and traversed the easts of the earth and its wests. Some of them proceeded towards Tihama and that is a nakhl towards the bazaar of 'Ukaz and he (the Holy Prophet) was leading his Companions in the morning prayer. So when they heard the Qur'an. they listened to it attentively and said: It is this which has caused obstruction between us and news from the Heaven. They went back to their people and said: O our people, we have heard a strange Qur'an which directs us to the right path; so we affirm our faith in it and we would never associate anyone with our Lord. And Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, revealed to His Apostle Muhammad (ﷺ):" It has been revealed to me that a party of Jinn listened to it" (Qur'an, lxxii. 1).
Ibn Abbas said: “The jinns used to ascent through the heavens, trying to listen about the Revelation. So when they heard a statement, they would add nine to it. The statement that they heard would be true, while what they added was false. So it was with the advent of the Messenger of Allah that they were prevented from their places. So they mentioned that to Iblis – and the stars were not shot at them before that. So Iblis said to them: ‘This is naught but an event that has occurred in the earth.’ So he sent out his armies, and they found the Messenger of Allah standing in Salat between two mountains” – I think he said “in Makkah” – “So they (returned) to meet with him (Iblis), and informed him. He said: ‘This is the event that has happened on the earth.’”

And the so-called Sahih (i.e. authentic) Hadith is even more ridiculous when it claims that Iblis (the leader of devils/Satan) came to know about the advent of Muhammad only many years after his prophethood, when many companions had already accepted Islam due to the preaching of Muhammad, and he went out with some of his Companions to the bazaar of 'Ukaz (i.e. Souk Okaz سوق عكاظ, which is an open-air market, at ʿUkāẓ, between Nakhla and al-Ṭāʾif, in Saudi Arabia). And Muhammad went to al-Ṭāʾif 10 years after getting the prophethood.
Remember, Muhammad kept his prophethood in secret for the first 3 years, and he was not able to pray openly in Mecca. How is it possible that Iblis and all his devils were unaware of his prophethood for such a long time? Even many companions had already accepted Islam due to Muhammad's preaching, and only after that Iblis and his devils came to know about the prophethood of Muhammad.
It is indeed true, to hide one lie, a thousand more lies are needed.
7th Blunder: The false Challenge of Allah that humans (and Jinns) cannot cross the regions of heavens and EARTH
Quran 55:33-35:
O company of jinn and mankind, if you are able to pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass. You will not pass except by authority/permission [from Allah] ... There will be sent upon you a flame of fire and smoke, and you will not be able to defend yourselves.
The writer of the Quran is again presenting the concept of flat earth here. But against Allah's claim, the non-Muslims and atheists, and Hindus (who all deny Allah) have already crossed the region of Earth (without permission of Allah) and no flame of fire or smoke was able to stop them from crossing the region of the earth.
Actually, the writer of the Quran had the same story in his mind, which is also present in other verses of the Quran i.e. when devils try to sit in the 1st heaven, then lamps of light (i.e. stars) transform into flames of fire and aim and chase the devils. The writer of the Quran didn't know that this flame of fire is only limited to our earth's atmosphere. Therefore, there is neither any flame of fire present in space nor smoke.
Muslim Excuse: These are not meteors, but the Guided Pulsar Gamma Rays, which are used to shoot down the devils by Allah
Almost all the Islam apologist websites claim that these are guided pulsar gamma rays that are used to shoot down the devils by Allah. For example (link):
It seems that Guided Pulsar Gamma Rays (perhaps there are other stars as well) are used to shoot down the devils by Allah Almighty's Will.
Answer:
This excuse has absolutely no link to the Quranic claim, while:
- Firstly, these Gamma rays are not 'guided', but they spread in all directions. Moreover, these Gamma rays don't look like burning flames of fire, but they are invisible.
- Secondly, these Gamma rays don't kill the devils when they sit in heaven, but the burning flame only chases them AFTER they have stolen the command of Allah.
- Thirdly, Muhammad was very clear in his Hadith (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2229a), that these are the METEORS (shooting stars) that are used to hit the devils, and not any invisible Gamma rays.
This excuse from Islam apologists is so distant from the original Quranic claim that it would be useless and stupid to comment anymore upon it.
Only ONE scientific mistake is enough to prove that whole Islam is fake
Please remember that according to Islam, Allah is 100% perfect. Therefore, even if it is proved that he made a single scientific mistake, then the rest of the 99.99% of the building of Islam is going to collapse automatically, and the whole of Islam will be proven to be fake.
